Stewart-Haas Racing Continues To Win

For Stewart-Haas Racing, the beat goes on. Ryan Newman’s Sunday victory at Martinsville Speedway was the organization’s third of the 2012 season and eighth trip to Victory Lane over the past 16 races. Batting .500 ain’t bad – especially in an environment as competitive as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It’s fair to say SHR [...]

Lorenzo puts Yamaha on top

Jorge Lorenzo ended Casey Stoner's run of fastest times in the final MotoGP free practice session in Qatar. Reigning champion Stoner - who had been quickest for Honda in practice one and two - led most of the Friday night session as well, but was pushed back to third in a flurry of late fast times. Lorenzo put in a 1m55.536s on his Yamaha to depose Stoner's early 1m55.674s going into the final minutes.

Vettel still confident about title defence

Sebastian Vettel is convinced that Red Bull Racing can still win the world championship this year, despite its difficult start to the campaign. After Red Bull's dominant 2011 season, Vettel has not been able to challenge for victory in the opening two races - and failed to score any points in Malaysia following a collision with backmarker Narain Karthikeyan. But although admitting that the start to the year has not been what the team wanted, Vettel is optimistic that the situation will improve for both himself and his team.

New York: 2013 Cadillac SRX looks the same, hides its high-tech secrets

2013 Cadillac SRX

If there's any place a Cadillac SUV can feel at home, surely it's Manhattan. Only fitting, then, that the updated 2013 Cadillac SRX has debuted at the New York Auto Show.

The revised luxury crossover has been treated to a mild facelift, but as with so many things, it's what's inside that counts with the new SRX. The cabin has been updated with a series of cosmetic and functional changes (new steering wheel, new shifter, etc.), but the bigger news is its fresh electronics. Cadillac has imbued the angular high-rider with its new CUE infotainment and connectivity system, complete with an eight-inch capacitive touchscreen. Other additions include the Safety Alert Seat system and active safety features like automatic front- and rear braking, adaptive cruise control, and so on.

In short, it looks to be a better SRX than the one it succeeds, and you can check it out in our gallery of live shots above and the stock shots from the manufacturer below.

Report: No all-wheel drive option in sight for 2014 Chevrolet Impala

2014 Chevrolet Impala - 2012 New York Auto Show reveal

While the 2014 Chevrolet Impala may have many charming qualities and boast a plethora of engine options, one feature it reportedly won't be offering is all-wheel drive. According to GMInsideNews.com, Chevrolet reps have said all-wheel drive is not part of the short-term or long-term plan for the new large sedan.

While the Impala will share a platform with the Cadillac XTS and Buick LaCrosse - both of which do offer AWD - apparently General Motors wants to keep the Impala front-drive-only to help differentiate it from the Buick and Cadillac. While it remains to be seen whether the lack of all-wheel drive will hurt the Impala's chances of competing with the Ford Taurus and Dodge Charger, which both offer it, Chevy's people have reportedly called all-wheel drive a "very slim piece of the full-size sedan market."

Video: Viper coming to Forza this summer, will include Autovista version [w/video]

Anyone with an Xbox 360 and Forza Motorsport 4 will be able to get their hands on a virtual version of the all-new 2013 SRT Viper. As revealed at its New York Auto Show debut, the hotly anticipated American supercar is headed to the game as part of an exclusive Viper Pack.

Turn 10, the studio behind the game's development, has revealed that the Viper Pack will be available this summer, and in addition to a drivable version of the Viper, will also include a Viper Autovista experience that lets players inspect the car very closely using their controllers or the hands-free Kinect system. Pricing for the pack has not yet been mentioned, and though not confirmed, we hope the GTS-R racing version of the Viper that debuted alongside the production car will also be digitized for the game and included in the pack.

Keep scrolling to watch the official 50-second teaser video of the 2013 SRT Viper in Forza Motorsport 4.

It didn’t take long for Oscar Sahlin to make an impact on iRacing.  The postman from Södertälje, Sweden joined the service in the middle of 2011 Season 1 and, by the time the final checkered flag of Season 3 had fallen, he had bested the likes of Ryan Field and Paul Strodtbeck to claim the iRacing.com Mustang Challenge title.  The Ford Mustang FR500S remains his metier, as Sahlin had driven his personal virtual (or is that virtual personal?) pony car to third place the past two seasons of the iRacing.com GRAND-AM Sports Car Series.  With the finish line coming into view for 2012 Season 1, he finds himself in a familiar spot — third — behind Paulo Valente and Matthew Davis in the GRAND-AM series with seven wins and ten [...]

ELMS forced to cancel Zolder round

A lack of entries has forced the organisers of the European Le Mans Series to cancel the second round of the championship, which was to be held at Zolder on May 20. Just 21 cars took part in the opening race at Paul Ricard last weekend and only 19 entries were registered for the Belgian race. Following a meeting between ELMS promoter Patrick Peter, ACO vice president Pierre Fillon, FIM WEC general manager Gerard Neveu and ACO sports director Vincent Beaumesnil (ACO Sports Director) at Ricard, and in consultation with the teams, it was decided to write off the event

Sauber: Qualifying key to keeping form

Sauber is targeting a much-needed improvement to its qualifying pace for the Chinese Grand Prix, so it can capitalise on the kind of race form that helped Sergio Perez challenge for victory in Malaysia. The Swiss outfit is confident that its C31 has the speed to deliver more podium finishes this year, but it feels its chances of doing that will be compromised if it cannot get its drivers nearer the front of the grid.

Official: 2013 Chevrolet Spark to start at $12,995*

2013 Chevrolet Spark - front three-quarter view

General Motors is taking a big gamble in a little way with its 2013 Chevrolet Spark. The Detroit automaker is betting that high fuel prices and an increased awareness of one's ecological footprint will mean more consumers are willing to entertain a new car with an even smaller err... footprint. The Spark will join other minicars like the Fiat 500, Scion iQ and Smart ForTwo, none of which have met with significant sales volume. On the other hand, its big brother, the Sonic has performed well in the early going. In addition, the Spark offers more physical volume than its peers - as well as a set of rear doors - so practicality appears to be solidly in favor of Camp Chevy.

The five-door Spark will test America's appetites for small car life with a starting price of just $12,995 (*including delivery) when it arrives in Chevrolet showrooms later this year. Available in a trio of trims, the lineup will start with the well-equipped LS model that includes a whopping 10 airbags, air conditioning, power windows, OnStar and 15-inch alloys.

Stepping up to the 1LT trim will cost $14,495, but it adds an audio system with seven-inch color touchscreen, USB connectivity and satellite radio. Additional features include keyless entry, power mirrors, cruise control, Bluetooth ("for select phones") and mundane items like visor mirrors and floor mats. The range-topping 2LT ($15,795) will be distinguished by a unique set of 15-inch wheels, sportier body-color fascias, fog lamps and additional exterior brightwork. Inside, heated, leatherette-covered seats and a leather-wrapped wheel spruce up the cabin.

Regardless of which trim spec is selected, buyers will find a 1.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder underhood, and a five-speed manual is standard equipment, though a four-speed automatic can be substituted for $925.

GM announced back in October that it will also bring a Spark EV to "select markets" in the U.S. sometime in 2013, though it has yet to announce pricing or an on-sale date for the pure electric runabout.

Ross Brawn believes that improving car set-up, rather than a wholesale rethink about the design of the W03, is all that is needed for Mercedes to start finally delivering on its promise. Hinchcliffe sure pole was possible

James Hinchcliffe described qualifying second for Sunday's IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park as "bittersweet", with his joy at having secured his career-best grid position having been tempered by that fact that he believes he could have taken pole. The Andretti Autosport driver's previous best qualifying position was third at Kentucky last year, but he admitted that missing pole by just 0.04 seconds this weekend had left him ruing what might have been. "It's one of those bittersweet things," he said

2013 Lincoln MKZ Shows Off a Big Retractable Glass Roof [New York Auto Show]

Lincoln has released a video of its 2013 MKZ flaunting the car’s new retractable glass roof. But this isn’t your ordinary standard-issue sunroof. This one is, well, huge. A 15.2-square-foot section of the roof—basically everything between the A- and C-pillars—slides back to create an opening that is almost two feet long by two-and-a-half-feet wide. The [...]

Hildebrand praises Panther progress

JR Hildebrand paid tribute to the Panther Racing team after earning his highest-ever grid spot for a non-oval race, and the team's best in seven years, during qualifying for this weekend's IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park. Hildebrand will start Sunday's race from fifth on the grid, and said that the result was the pay-off for work that the team had put in during the off-season. "We put a high priority this year on improving our road and street course programme," he said

Red Bull still seeking wing clarification

Red Bull Racing is still pushing the FIA for further clarification about the legality of the DRS system on the Mercedes-Benz, as it continues to question whether the concept complies with the regulations. Although motor racing's governing body has twice ruled that the DRS-activated F-duct - which helps stalls the front and rear wings for a straight-line speed boost – is fully legal, that has not stopped attempts by Red Bull Racing and Lotus to get it outlawed. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told Sky's 'F1 Show' that he expected further progress on the matter to take place ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, when a ruling from the head of F1's technical department Charlie Whiting is expected

Official: Nissan debuts production NV200 "Taxi of Tomorrow" for New Yorkers

It takes but six months to crown a new American Idol, but the search for a replacement New York City taxi has taken five years, and the winner is finally ready to collect its flowers and contract.

The production taxi version of the NV200 is, except for its looks, just about all a cabbie and his passenger could want from their voyages together: more room, more lighting, a panoramic roof, airbags front and rear, climate control for back-seaters, charging ports and an active carbon headliner to absorb odors are just the start.

We've seen renderings of the interior, but the New York Auto Show is where locals will get a chance to meet their lemony carriages before they enter service next year. A mobility version for disabled passengers is being developed with Braun and will go on sale next year as well. Scroll down for the full skinny on the Taxi of Tomorrow, and click the image above to enlarge.

Quaife-Hobbs rues tyre choice

Auto GP points leader Adrian Quaife-Hobbs was left to rue a last minute tyre choice decision that he felt hindered his chances of taking another race win at Valencia on Saturday. Polesitter Quaife-Hobbs (Super Nova) had originally planned to start the race on a new set of medium compound Kumho tyres, but opted to switch to soft tyres, in line with the rest of the grid, shortly before the start. Euronova Racing's Sergey Sirotkin made an even later decision to change to fresh medium tyres, the only driver to do so, and the 16-year-old Russian duly became the championship's youngest ever winner.

New York: Project Nina revealed as Fisker Atlantic, images leak early

Here it is, folks. This is the car that was under cover in the spy shots we showed you a few days ago, and it's going to be called the Fisker Atlantic when it debuts this week at the New York Auto Show. These two images of the car appeared today on a Czech website, and the rear shot clearly shows a license plate bearing the name "Atlantic."

Previously called Project Nina, the Atlantic will slot in Fisker's fledgeling lineup below the Karma, and reportedly cost considerably less. While any talk of pricing is just a guess at this point, rumor has it the Atlantic will be about half the price of the Karma, putting it squarely in the $45,000-$55,000 range. It's a plug-in series hybrid, just like its big brother, but the Atlantic will reportedly use a turbocharged four-cylinder from BMW as its range-extending generator.

We'll have more detailed information about the Atlantic when it officially debuts at the New York Auto Show this week, so come back for our live show coverage on Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5.

Video: This is why drag racers should stay on dragstrips

funny car wreck

We've seen some dumb ideas before, but this one may take the cake. The post-jump video shows what happens when a dragster that should stick to the strip goes on a track that requires a mild left turn. Actually, this "track" looks more like the cart path at the local golf course, except most owners wouldn't put the path this close to a ditch.

Of course the dragster ends up in said ditch, and we're thinking the driver is mighty lucky that his car rolled back into the upright position, or he could have been in a heap of trouble. Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself, if only to enjoy the second vantage point of the crash, which shows just how useless a steering wheel can be in a drag car.
