KTM X-Bow Will Get a Windshield and Doors, Could Come to the U.S.

If there is one issue with the ultra-hard-core KTM X-Bow, it’s that its roofless design makes for soggy drives home from the track when the roads are anything more than damp. If there are two issues with the ultra-hard-core X-Bow, the other is that it’s not available for purchase in the U.S. (In all reality, [...]

Name That Exhaust Note, Episode 139: 2012 Aston Martin DBS

On Tuesday, we posted an audio recording of a mystery car’s exhaust note. To hear it again, click play above. A good number of you figured out that this week’s sound came from an Aston Martin DBS’s 5.9-liter V-12 engine. The big twelve-cylinder makes 510 hp in the 2012 model, but next year the DBS [...]

Capello not blaming McNish after crash

Audi veteran Rinaldo Capello says he does not blame Allan McNish for missing out on the chance to add a fourth Le Mans 24 Hours victory to his tally on the Italian's final crack at the race. McNish spun the #2 R18 e-tron Quattro into the wall at the Porsche Curves in the 22nd hour of the race as the two Audi hybrids contested the lead while on differing fuel strategies. The Scot recovered the car to the pits, but lost a lap while its front end was replaced costing the crew any realistic chance of victory

iRacer Profile – Scott McDonough

It’s nice to share the wealth.  After two seasons of utter domination of the Daytona Prototype class of the  iRacing.com Grand-Am Online Sports Car Series, Scott McDonough is taking a bit of break in 2012 S3, contesting only a trio of races so far.  At that he’s already added a couple of wins to his personal total of 76 victories in the past year, a year that saw him finish P4 in 2011 S3 before taking back-to-back titles in S4 and 2012 Season 1 . . . including a S4 “double” that also included the Time Trial title. That’s not to say that current point leader Ronan Taugeron — or pursuers like Renato Dornelles, Cesc Riu, Tyson Cierppial and Joel Guez — won’t be a worthy champion inS4.  But it [...]

California APA Pooh Poohs Statewide Parking Reform Efforts

Parking reform is always difficult. Decades of market-distorting parking minimums have made people feel more than a little bit entitled to subsidized off-street car storage. (See this reaction from a Seattle resident: “We need parking to survive.”)

Corvette: AF Corse can still win

Corvette's Richard Westbrook and Oliver Gavin believe the #51 AF Corse Ferrari is still a major threat in the GTE Pro class at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours despite the car missing most of qualifying and having to start from the back of the field. Gavin insists the Ferrari's lack of running - the result of Giancarlo Fisichella's Wednesday crash at the Porsche curves – will not count against it during the race, and fully expects it to be a contender for victory

Video: Take a virtual lap of Austin's Circuit of the Americas

Hermann Tilke designed the Austin F1 circuit, and no one is quite sure if he's recreated the magic of Turkey or the borefest of Valencia. With 133 feet of elevation change, though, the 3.4 mile Circuit of the Americas and its 20 turns should be closer to the former. The track will feature in Codemasters' "F1 2012" video game, and Motorworld Hype was given a virtual tour by Codemasters designer Paul Jeal at E3.

Aside from the overexposure, the track and the game both look worthy of further investigation. Scroll down to check it out, as well as a longer video of chief designer Stephen Hood doing three laps in Lewis Hamilton's McLaren Mercedes.
